WILL HUMANS LOSE JOBS?

One concern is that adding more robots to farming will replace jobs that humans once did, thereby leaving more humans unemployed. In some ways, this will be true. But in other ways it won’t.

First, many of the jobs that are being replaced by robots couldn’t have been done by humans in the first place. For example, a human couldn’t fly over the fields like the UAVs and take aerial images and make maps of the topography. Therefore, no humans lost those particular jobs when the aerial drones were hired.

Second, it’s becoming more and more difficult to find workers who want to complete certain tasks on the farm that UGVs now do. In developed countries, for instance, many younger workers do not want to perform the physical labor jobs of farmhands. They find it too backbreaking and would rather make their living in other “fields.”
